New work by Sophie Malpas

20–22 February
Unit 2, St Leonards-on-Sea

WAKE UP & is Sophie’s biggest solo exhibition to date, presenting a bold body of new work spanning painting, three-dimensional elements, and site-specific installation.

Rooted in play, colour, and embodied making, the exhibition marks a deliberate step outside of the artist’s comfort zone. It is a space held between fear and excitement. An invitation to move towards expansion, risk, and possibility.

The title WAKE UP & is an open-ended call to action, inviting the audience to complete the sentence for themselves…

Wake up & do the thing that scares you
Wake up & take up more space
 Wake up &
feel the joy anyway

Sophie is a multi-media artist and creative facilitator based in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex. Her practice is driven by observations of joy and a deep interest in the psychological power of colour. Through dynamic relationships of shape and form, Sophie creates work that cultivates feelings of happiness, pleasure, and a free mind.

Working predominantly at a large scale, the physicality of Sophie’s process acts as a somatic release. Gesture, movement, and size allow the body to lead, becoming tools for healing, transformation, and connection. Colour is used not simply as surface, but as a vehicle for emotional and psychological shift. The work seeks to uplift, intrigue, and spark moments of elation for the viewer.

Alongside the exhibition, Sophie will host artist-led workshops in the space on Sunday, extending the invitation to play, explore, and create together. Booking information coming soon.

The exhibition will launch with a party-style private view on Friday 20 February, 6–9pm.
