Hole Projects CIC set up Unit 2 as a life ring in the rising tide of commercial pressure and institutional exclusivity that has been drowning the art world for decades. In these strange times, supporting the arts is more important than ever.
Not only has arts funding been slashed by 35%, but artists are also facing a higher cost of living (as we all are), extortionate studio overheads, and completely exclusionary exhibition costs, not to mention the prohibitive expense of art school programmes.
Access to exhibition space is absolutely key in the development of an artist’s career. The gallery is where work can be seen, contextualised, discussed, and evaluated – all for the better of the artist’s practice. Those conversations and connections made can lead anywhere – the development of that network is crucial.
Without good quality opportunities for working class, low income and otherwise marginalised emerging artists, we risk a homogenised cultural landscape, with no room for the magic of new perspectives and fresh ideas to flourish. The current price point of a show at Unit 2 is still a considerable amount of money, so any amount of support can help take this financial commitment away from artists.
£10 could pay for an artist’s travel to the space.
£40 means we can offer two free places to artists participating in our in-house shows.
£100 keeps the lights on for a month.
£500 means a group or an individual can have a show for free.
£1000+ contributes enormously to our start up costs and would reduce the hire fee for everyone.
Please contact us to discuss ways you could support us, and if you have an idea for a curatorial project, an event or an exhibition in mind, we would love to hear from you.
